Use Quicksave, for protecting both mission and non mission progress. TLDR - I think mission save games are where the issue is (whatever it actually is), and especially the Autosaves. I have also turned off steam cloud synchronisation, as that has caused issues in games like Witcher 3 (it may not make any difference here). What worked for me, was first loading a non mission Quicksave, and then loading my mission Quicksave files. Net 4.5, cleared local config folders, verified integrity of game cache, setup shortcut to run game in administrator mode, removed and re-downloaded the DLC's (only had official ones), uninstalling and updating graphics drivers. It is the sequel to 2012s reboot of the series. All the files you’ll need are in the config folder within the game directory (default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XComGame\Config).
